SimonM Posted 17 December , 2008 Share Posted 17 December , 2008 Were married women permitted to join the WAAC? Dear Harriet, According to the printed full particulars and terms of service from 1917 which we hold here at the National Army Museum, the following answers your question: "V. Conditions of Acceptance Married Women No woman whose husband is serving Overseas will be eligible for employment Overseas in the same theatre of War as that in which her husband is serving." In other words, yes married women could join but there were resctrictions on where they could serve. Hope this helps Simon Moody
RobL Posted 17 December , 2008 Share Posted 17 December , 2008 Rather unlucky - WAAC/QMAAC only served on western front, so in the more than likely chance your husband was based there, you're stuck at home!
