Hi Ian

HMS Warwick was a 1100 ton "W" Class Destroyer (Long Range Escort) completed in 1918 and lost on 20th February 1944, torpedoed by U 413 (KL Gustav Poel Knights Cross) in position 50.27N / 05.23W (Off Trevose Head). She was built by Hawthorne Leslie and launched on 28/12/1917 and in WW2 she had the pennant number D.25.

Ian

HMS WARWICK was a 'W' Class Destroyer. She took part in the Zeebrugge Raid 23.4.18. Re-commissioned for WW2 she was sunk by U413 on 20.2.1944.

In 1942 the ship had been adopted by the town of Chepstow.

The ships Ensign flown at Zeebrugge hangs in St.Mary's Church, Warwick.

There is a photo of her on this site:

Taffrail describes Warwick's position at Zeebrugge as follows:

"The Warwick, Commander Victor Campbell,D.S.O., on board of which was Sir Roger Keyes himself, together with the Phoebe and the North Star, was stationed close inshore to attack any hostile destroyers leaving the harbour. Throughout the operation, sometimes under heavy fire, the Warwick remained within a few hundred yards of the Vindictive as she lay alongside the mole."
