Hi all,

We have inherited this photo from the South African side of our family and we have no idea which unit this, where they are or who any of the men are in the photo

Can anyone help us please?!

Thanks,

The Bells

Apparently a mixture of small and Wolseley pattern helmets. dont know what date small helmet introduced but interwar. Wolseley helmets seem to have either the Sprinbok General Service badge without crown(although I would have expec ted this to be voided) or perhaps one of the interwar regimental badges . In Afrikaans areas they tended to do without the crown perhaps Die Middelandise Regiment? If associated with your other picture ORs SA Airforce? Note the regimental flash on helmet to right hand side of picture. Also odd for tunics to have no breast pockets at this stage.

Just another thought the cap badges apprear to differ in size so possibly a school of instruction with the instructor wearing the small pattern helmet Presumably these were introduced earlier for Permanent Force than for Citizen Force. The Lewis gun means that obvioulsy it is post 1915.
