Jim Hastings Posted 3 December , 2008 Share Posted 3 December , 2008 My wife is researching her Great Grandfather, L47114 Gnr HG Sadler of 190 Bde RFA and although we have found his service record and MIC on-line we'd be interested to find out more about his war. Has anyone any details about Bty's in this Bde and in what operations they served in? Our searches have so far proved a blank. Many thanks Regards Jim
jay dubaya Posted 4 December , 2008 Share Posted 4 December , 2008 Hi Jim, The 190th (Wimbledon) Bde RFA consisted of A, B, C, and D Btys. They were all locally recruited by the Mayor and Borough of Wimbledon on 28th August 1915 and were effectively a 'pals' unit, the 'L' prefix to Gnr Sadler's number denoting a local recruit. The other RFA Bdes in the division were also locally recruited - 183rd (howitzer) (Hampstead), 187th (Fulham) and 189th (Hackney). The 41st Division arrived in France during early May 1916 and first went into action on the Somme during September1916, in November 1917 the division moved to Italy until March 1918 when it arrived back in France. The battles which the division took part in can be found here. There are 3 war diaries for the 190th Bde RFA at the National Archives, sadly these are not yet online but can be viewed in person, they are: WO 95/2625 May 1916 - October 1917 WO 95/4242 November 1917 - February 1918 WO 95/2625 March 1918 - October 1919 cheers, Jon
