Remembered Today:

Mistake of date of death

Pierre

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I write for the great nephew of Pte Peter Millane NZ Entrenching Bn, listed at Messines New Zealand Memorial.

Peter's date od death in the CWGC database is 15/04/1919 in place of 15/04/1918.

New Zealand Archives web site gives the good date, 1918.

I think it seems an obvious miss tape in the CWGC database for two reasons

- the others men of the regiment are listed died between 13 and 17/04/1918

- if he was dead in 1919 he had a grave

Are these two reasons enough to ask a correction in the CWGC database ?

Many thanks.

Pierre

Where is the date error?

Unless I am missing something both are correct. The Smith intimation of 4th June 1915 confirms the death as the day before publication and the funeral the day after. In Nelson's case the death was four days before the notice was printed. In both cases they agree with the CWGC info you give.

NELSON is a simple scanning error.

SMITH says 1916 in the original documents.

The first will be corrected and I'll check the details on the other. Can you email me the whole page of the Times - or at least part showing the date.
