Old War Skule Posted 20 November , 2008 Share Posted 20 November , 2008 I picked this Brodie up on eBay for the princely sum of $42. It's really just a shell with an unknown liner. Stampings are, "BS 62." I figured I'd replace the liner and chin strap with one from Military History Workshop. I'm more concerned with stripping off the old paint, controlling the rust, and repainting it. Any help would be very appreciated.
scottmarchand Posted 20 November , 2008 Share Posted 20 November , 2008 You have a Portugese helmet, ww I & early 1920's helmet. IMO Leave it alone, 'restoration' just wrecks it's character and history.
john in minnesota Posted 20 November , 2008 Share Posted 20 November , 2008 I concur, leave it alone - worth considerably more $$ than your purchase price to a WW1 Portuguese collector (yes, they exist!)
Wardog Posted 20 November , 2008 Share Posted 20 November , 2008 Just to confirm though the shell is a Brodie, and BS a Scottish manufacturer, will look it up later. Relined and with a civil defence insigna about 1930 I think. Cheers, Paul. http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums/i...c=73643&hl= http://www.gostak.demon.co.uk/helmets/portugal.htm
Olharapo Posted 24 August , 2009 Share Posted 24 August , 2009 I believe that's a portuguese M917/30 (MK-I) from the DCT (Defesa Civil Territorial) Territorial Civil Defense
