Bert Heyvaert Posted 9 March , 2004 Share Posted 9 March , 2004 Hi, My dissertation topic is finally set. I will be looking at The Sheffield city batallion training trenches at the Redmires, just outside Sheffield in the Peak District. I've been in contact with the people of the institute for lifelong learning from the uni, who are doing the survey, and they were most helpfull. The thing I want to look at is: What's left on the site, how can we interpret it, what can it mean for us as a 'site of memory', and how can we preserve and present this 'unspoiled' site from a curatorial point of view. Everyone who has any thoughts on this, I would be most delighted to hear them. Also, I would be interested to hear about other similar sites in Britan and how they are preserved today. Any information on the Sheffield city battalion for their time of trainibg at the Redmires would also be most welcome. Thanks, Bert.
