Neil Clark Posted 11 November , 2008 Share Posted 11 November , 2008 I have just taken delivery of the following book - 1. History of the Great War based on official documents by direction of the Historical Section of the Committee of Imperial Defence. Medical Services: Casualties and Medical Statistics of the Great War by Major T.J. Mitchell and G.M. Smith (London: HMSO, 1931), xx, 382 pp I DO WONDER IF THE NAVAL HISTORICAL BRANCH IN PORTSMOUTH HAS EVER SEEN THIS BOOK? Perhaps I should ask them myself today by making a Freedom of Information Request? Re-printed by the Battery Press in 1997. It can be obtained from the USA here - http://www.batterypress.com/ Cost £42.00 Note - only a few more copies left! It took 7 days to get delivery which is pretty good. Obviously I haven't read the book yet but I have flicked through it briefly. I can assure you all that if you are doing any non-com research you need this book in your library. It contains detailed information about the many causes of death which were attributable to war service. Not only does it contain statistical information about the actual deaths, it also includes detailed write ups on the Ministry of Pensions and the whole war disability process. I have a few cases which were rejected which I now intend to re-submit based upon harsh and rushed judgements. It will come as no surprise to any of you "in the know" that all these cases I refer to here are in fact sailors and that the cases were wrongly adjudicated by our friends at Portsmouth - The Royal Naval Historical Branch no less. It's quite obvious to me that whoever rejected my cases didn't take the time to get proper medical advice from a qualified medical practitioner ie - Heart Problems can be caused by INFECTION! I'm going to baffle them with science now I am in full possession of the FACTS here. My advice to you all to to get hold of a copy before they run out. We can then all get together and blitz those idiots at Portsmouth with our expert knowledge. For those of you who genuinely can't afford to get a copy at this price, I am happy to LEND mine out providing it's returned afterwards. Jonathan Saunders Posted 11 November , 2008 Share Posted 11 November , 2008 For those of you who genuinely can't afford to get a copy at this price, I am happy to LEND mine out providing it's returned afterwards in the same condition. An extremely generous offer, which reminds me of the principles upon which the Forum originally developed.
