The Isle of Man thread has prompted me to ask was the German prisoner buried in the churchyard at Healey near Masham Yorkshire re-buried at Cannock Chase or is the grave, as the CWGC site suggests, still there?

Terry can you provide the answer? I'm sure your the chap that can.

Roger.

There is no German casualty listed by CWGC at Healey (St Paul) Churchyard and so he must have been moved to Cannock.

The CWGC cemetery info has obviously not been updated from that in the old register. I'll report it for changing.

The only other remote possibility is that the name has been left off the database in error. I'll check tomorrow.

Terry,

Thanks for the reply. I'm sure there was a POW camp at Breary Bank, Colsterdale. This was the camp used by the Leeds pals before departure overseas and then used as a POW camp. I seem to remember hearing it was an officers camp.

Thanks again,

Roger.

Confirmed that he was moved to Cannock and cemetery info is now amended.

Out of interest, he was...

WISSELER, Hans Otto Ludwig, German Army, 10/08/1918.

Block 14, Grave 396. Cannock Chase German Military Cemetery

Terry,

Thanks for that. I wonder what his story was?

Regards,

Roger.
