This is a picture of my Great Uncle,Pte William Rice, 39986 Leicester Reg.,

OR, it may be his brother,

Pte Cecil Rice, 34016 Sherwood Foresters, 3rd Bttn. , later Labour Corps, 472 Ag. company.

Photo is believed to have been taken in 1915/16

Can anyone recognise the uniform, cap badge etc and confirm which of my Gt Uncles this is?

- the back of the photo seems to say "William", but it has been suggested the the shape of the cap badge appears

to be more like that of the Foresters than the Leicesters?

All comments appreciated!

Tim

It is almost certainly a picture of Cecil as he is wearing a General List/General Service Corps badge of the Royal Coat of Arms, as worn by the Labour Corps until 1919 when they were at last issued with their own unique badge. Men usually moved from the infantry to the Labour Corps when they had been wounded/fallen ill and recovered but were unfit for infantry service.

Yes, his cap badge. This is the officers' version, I do not have a pic of an ORs but it was the same badge in gilding metal (brass).
