My grandfather, W.Z.2447 W.Miles, served on the Victory I, Viginian, Excellina ? (can't read the writing) and President III. Could any Pal help me out or tell me if i could obtain a photo of any of the ships. I have my grandfathers service papers consisting of 3 sheets, ships served on amd medal entitled to. Is there any other worth while research i could carry out to find out, ships logs etc? Any help appreciated.

Cheers,

Bill

Bill,

Re ‘Virginian’ please see here

During the Great War she was firstly a troop carrier and then an armed merchant cruiser

Best of luck with the research

Victory I was Portsmouth Depot, President III was London Depot.

Excellina?? Could it be Excellent? HMS Excellent, ex HMS Handy - gunnery school at Portsmouth 1914, became Gunboat at Dover late 1914-1915, disarmed 1916, became HMS Calcutta December 1916, became HMS Snapper II August 1917.

Aye
