Miss Ada Annie Barlow

My Wife's great aunt Miss Ada Annie Barlow was awarded an OBE in 1918 for rescuing other workers from a fire in Wandsworth during the war. We think she was employed by Magnesium Metal Ltd.

The citation from the LG reads, Barlow, Ada Annie for courage and resource shown on the occasion of a fire at a munitions factory.

Unfortunately the actual badge was stolen from the family home some years ago and all we have is the case.

We have not been able to confirm the details of the incident and would appreciate any other information.

The really sad thing is her fiancé L/cpl. Reginald Morton s/n 2087 9Bn East Surrey Regt was killed on 26 September 1915 and is commemorated on the Loos Memorial.
