W E Cruse

Whist over in France a few weeks ago I stopped at Sailly-Saillisel Cemetery, I hadn't been there before and I was passing so I stopped.

I noticed the following grave

2911102969_f0742078df.jpg

It stuck out at me as Cruse is my paternal grandmothers name so it is of some interest to me, and I thoughtg I'll have a look at this when I get home.

So, the mystery begins..............

CWGC lists him as W E Cruse

National Archives has his MIC as Walter E Cruse

SDGW has Walter Edgar Cruse, born and enlisted in Brixton (this fits in with the area of London where my part of the Cruse family come from)

Nothing wrong so far looks straight forward, but,

There doesn't appear to be a birth entry in the BMD indexes for Walter Edgar Cruse

No mention in the 1901 Census of Walter Edgar Cruse.

He doesn't seem exist before his army service - I can find no mention of him being a 'served as' person

Any ideas??

Cheers

Steve

The birth of a Walter Ernest Cruse was registered in Fulham in 1Q 1880.

Thanks Chris,

I had seen this one and thought this was my man until I looked on SDGW, which is Edgar and born in Brixton, so I have discounted him
