Can anyone please tell me is it still possible to visit Croonaert Wood and how do go about gaining access, is it correct that visits are arranged through the tourist office in Kemmel, if so can I go along on the day to arrange a visit or do i need to pre-book.

Many thanks.

Stuart

I am sure that is still the case. No prior notice is needed. Just check the opening times of the tourist office on line and go along. They will give you a code for the lock on the gate.

Just first go to the Tourist Office of Kemmel, pay a modest fee, receive the code for the lock on the gate, and go back to the interesting site by yourself. Quite easy.

Make sure you don't visit on Saturdays. The site is closed every saturday due to local hunters hunting around the site. The gate will be chained and you will be warned off by the hunt captain. This has been explained to the tour companies here in Ieper via the tourist board. Apart from that, it well worth the visit, if only for historical reasons.

Best wishes.

Chris.
