munchkin Posted 29 February , 2004 Share Posted 29 February , 2004 Hi all, My Daughter is learning about the great war in history class at school. One of the questions that has been asked, is to portray herself as a soldier in the hours leading upto and going over the top. Is there any web sites that has soldiers diaries, that she can read as a guide. Thanks in advance.
James Brown Posted 29 February , 2004 Share Posted 29 February , 2004 Munchkin The mother site http://www.1914-1918.net/heroes/heroeslist.htm here has many. And as a guide is very valuable for school projects. There are more links for school projects here http://www.1914-1918.net/index.htm. munchkin Posted 29 February , 2004 Author Share Posted 29 February , 2004 Thanks, I have had a look and, although very informative, it does not give actual soldiers accounts of "going over the top".
Fleur Posted 1 March , 2004 Share Posted 1 March , 2004 I suggest that you pop along to your local library and see if you can get hold of 'Deaths Men' by Dennis Winter and 'Forgotten Voices' by Max Arthur as both books have excellent accounts of the lead up to and the event of going over the top. You could also try some of the links from this site http://www.aftermathww1.com/links.asp And also visit Toms website, Hell Fire Corner - scroll down to INDIVIDUAL LIVES - RESEARCH AND REMEMBRANCE http://www.fylde.demon.co.uk/welcome.htm Fleur
Borden Battery Posted 1 March , 2004 Share Posted 1 March , 2004 Here is a website based in New Zealand that contains examples of two diaries from the Great War. The latter one is my late Grandfather who was born in England but grew up and enlisted with the Canadian Expeditionary Force. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~b...gc_letters.html
