Paul Reed Posted 28 February , 2004 Share Posted 28 February , 2004 I am pretty sure that no A7Vs or captured MkIVs were used by the German armed forces in Flanders; they operated in France only. The only time I can think they would have been used in was in April 1918, but I don't recall any mention of them in British sources for this period. Robert Dunlop Posted 28 February , 2004 Share Posted 28 February , 2004 I agree. To date, I have not found any references in the English coverage of the actions in Flanders. The British tankers had found the ground was too soft for tanks. Mitchell reports that the tankers tried to argue against the use of tanks in Third Ypres. There were occasions where tanks proved very useful, especially if hard roads were available. However, this was NOT the norm. The A7V would be even less likely to cope with the soft ground. These comments should be regarded as speculative until there is verification from German sources.
