JimSmithson Posted 4 September , 2008 Share Posted 4 September , 2008 My wanderings around Telegraph Hill led me into the woods and to almost falling down into this - Further looking led to -
JimSmithson Posted 4 September , 2008 Author Share Posted 4 September , 2008 Here is a general view of the position which lies on Telegraph Lane, a long German communication trench from before the withdrawal from the southern end of Nice Trench all the way to the lines NE of Beaurains. The wood is, unfortunately, a big rubbish dump so do be careful if you go there. I am sure there are lots of knowledgeable Pals out there who can fill in the details. More photos from around the Hill when I get the chance. Jim

JimSmithson Posted 9 September , 2008 Author Share Posted 9 September , 2008 Hi Andy Trench map then 1:25000 below. I'm starting a new thread with some pictures of where 43rd Brigade of 14th Division attacked on April 9th. Hopefully see you there - photos look a bit boring but if anyone is interested in the units involved they might mean something. Jim

towisuk Posted 10 September , 2008 Share Posted 10 September , 2008 The aerial shot of the wood where the bunker is, comes out quite detailed on Google Earth......... regards Tom
JimSmithson Posted 10 September , 2008 Author Share Posted 10 September , 2008 Almost looks clean from that height. I assure you it is not on closer inspection. The line you can see in the wood (top middle towards bottom right) marks the 1917 extent of the wood. More from my summer when I get my breath back from the start of term. stiletto_33853 Posted 10 September , 2008 Share Posted 10 September , 2008 Hi Jim, Thanks for showing the location as my next question was where in telegraph lane as that is one long long trench, interesting. Andy P.S. sorry not replied to your e-mail, been a heavy week so far this week but thanks for the copies of the pictures from our trip to the caves. fritz Posted 11 September , 2008 Share Posted 11 September , 2008 Hello to all, I enjoy this thread very much. Sorry to say that my material of this region is small. Also this map will be known by some of you, but you can recognize very good this small wood near Beaurains where Jim had taken the pics of the old bunker. My map shows the German positions at 9.4.1917. Kind regards Fritz

Sjack91 Posted 9 April Share Posted 9 April Hi folks, It has been a long time since any responses were written here but I just wanted to say that the area is in good condition and it was well worth a visit. I have attached some pictures and you can hopefully make out the trench known as Telegraph Hill and a shell hole. Thanks for the previous input. It was a big help when visiting.
