jimmyjames Posted 26 February , 2004 Share Posted 26 February , 2004 This naval officer is commemorated on the Prestbury Village War Memorial, which is just outside of Cheltenham. He died on 26th October 1918, aged 34. He is not listed, as far as I can see, at the CWGC. I have some sketchy info on him and would be extremely grateful for any details of his service, his ship HMS P32, and, particularly, his death (ie in action, accident or illness) With very many thanks Jimmy
Terry_Reeves Posted 26 February , 2004 Share Posted 26 February , 2004 His full name was Laurence William Newberry Boschetti. However he is listed in the CWCG data base as Lt LW Newbery-Boschetti RNR (note the misspelt and hyphenated surname), which no doubt caused the problem. His is buried at Cookham Cemetery, Berkshire, Grave D.D.18. No family details are given. Out of interest, the only HMS P32 that I have been able to find was sunk in August 1941. There are no submarines of that name listed in Jane's Fighting Ships of WW1. Terry Reeves
Terry Denham Posted 27 February , 2004 Share Posted 27 February , 2004 The original 1930 CWGC register spells his name as Newbery-Boschetti. What evidence is there that this is wrong? P.32 was a 'P' Class patrol boat from 20.01.16 till sold on 01.12.21. 613 tons. 230ft 1 x 4 inch gun
