manxman Posted 26 February , 2004 Share Posted 26 February , 2004 Published in 2000 - still available. Based on interviews with ex British POWS alive in 1999. Much background info, many POW photographs, 206 pages, retails £16.95 well recommended if you want to know about British POWS and the conditions that they were held in (Note as all veterans interviewed were o/rs, it centres very much on o/r camps, work Kommandos, etc) Buy it! Can any one help me with other recommendations for other books on British POWS
Paul Hodges Posted 27 February , 2004 Share Posted 27 February , 2004 WA Tucker's The Lousier War might be of interest. Well written memoir, about half of which is as a PoW, mainly at Roubaix. Lots of high jinks including escape attempts. New English Library, London, 1974, so well out of print but as a mass market paperback not too pricey to pick up. There is also a good PoW escape memoir, whose title escapes me but something like "The First Great Escape".
