Tony Lund Posted 3 September , 2008 Share Posted 3 September , 2008 I think this was the second worst day of the whole war for Huddersfield and district for the number of deaths. I started school in Huddersfield in 1954 and left in 1964, and during that time I never heard a single word about this day, or about May 3rd 1917 - which was even worse. Opposite the infants and junior school was a block of tenements which housed a number of armless and legless Great War Veterans, but we were never told anything about them either. Of course we could see they were the age of our grandfathers and we all knew who they were, but there was never a word in a history lesson about them or any others from the town. I have taken the liberty to include a link to a thread about this day that most of you will probably have seen by now, any further information anyone may have is always welcome. September 3rd 1916.
