Guest fbdownes Posted 25 February , 2004 Share Posted 25 February , 2004 Hi the lad on the bottom left of the Photo was my G/fathers nephew. They joined up together according to family ledgend. He was KIA 28th Aug 1918 serving in the 6th Batt.London Regt. City of London Rifles and buried in Dive Copse Cem Somme. According to familly records they both joined the Royal Fusilliers the latest in may 1915. Could he go from the Fusilliers to the 5th Batt. City of London Rifles. And most of all where in the world could the photo be taken. The only place I can find as a possible is Malta. Would be very obliged if anyone can help. fbdownes
Paul Reed Posted 25 February , 2004 Share Posted 25 February , 2004 Not many clues there except I suspect that it is Egypt or Palestine, and the dog tags worn round the neck of one of the men help date it; the two tags were brought in late 1916; so it is after that time. You might find my London Regiment pages of use: http://battlefields1418.50megs.com/londons.htm There was a whole division of London troops in Palestine (60th Division); it was quite common for men to transfer to units serving on the Western Front.
