Raising a glass to the memory of Charles, Lloyd & Hector. Raising another to Neil for giving his time to the IFTC project. A worthy cause.

Thanks Terry for the update.

Unfortunately all I know about Charles' fate is what I have gleaned from Chris McCarthy's book 'The Somme Day-by-Day'.

He would have been in involved in the attack by 46th Division on Gommecourt when 1/6th North Staffs were in the first wave of the attack by 137 Brigade. The wire was largely uncut and any men who survived the machines guns and artillery as they crossed No Man's Land were driven back by German rifle fire and hand grenades.

May they be long remembered.

Looking at Pollard's service record it shows that he was returned to Australia with a Spinal Abcess.
