punjab612 Posted 18 July , 2008 Share Posted 18 July , 2008 Sorry I don't have the diary for that period but from the battalion history iI can confirm that they were in the Battle of the Lys in the vicinty of Mesplaux Farm and the Lawe Canal. If you PM me with your e-mail I will send extracts and map for this period. Peter

Greenwoodman Posted 18 July , 2008 Share Posted 18 July , 2008 War Diary 1NF 10th April ..... At 3.30pm Bn came under the orders of 166 inf Bde and moved up to support 1/5th King's Own who were in Shell Holes in front of LA HAMEL. 7.30 pm Orders were received for X Coy 5th Fusiliers to relieve too [sic] Coys of 1/5th King's Own in front line between X 16 c 25 . X 22 A 46. and "Y" Coy to move into Support in G Switch. W & Z Coys moved up to occupy the Wired line between LA LAWE CANAL and the road at X 20 J 4. 11th April On the night of the 11th all four Companies were in the line with the exception of one Platoon of "W" Coy which remained in immediate support. 12th April No Change in the situation. 13th April "Y" Coy suffered severe casualties so "W" Coys support Platoon was attachs to "Y" Coy and sent into the line otherwise there was no change. Casualties - reported that 45 were killed in the month of April 1918. There is a report on Ops 9th-14th included in the War Diary for April 1918, and while more detail is included in the days leading up to 13th, there is little with light-shedding qualities on 13th itself. The history extract from Punjab612 will no doubt include the info that the Bn was heavily shelled on 13th.
