Max Posted 1 March , 2004 Author Share Posted 1 March , 2004 Hello Chad This is for period 7th - 9th October 1916. It is so brief that a Yorkshireman cannot have written it as we are not known for our brevity. "7th October 1916 2.10.p.m. Battalion attacked trenches to the left of LE SARS. Objective gained & held. Losses heavy. 8 Officers & 217 OR. 8th October Battn relieved by the _________ 47th Brigade, 15th Division. Marched to bivouac in ROUND WOOD 9th October Battn left ROUND WOOD. Marched to billets in ALBERT." There is a considerable amount more for the period around 22nd Sept 1917. If you contact me off forum using the email facility and give me your email address I will send the sheets on (there is also a map). As a matter of interest my Great Uncle, Sgt. William Henry Piper M.M., was mortally wounded on the 18th September whilst relieving 8th York and Lancs. Are you looking for a casualty for the action on the 22nd? as in the Battalion War diary there is a full listing of killed and wounded for all companys during the period 18 - 22nd Sept. I only photographed those relating to A Company. Andy
