isadore Posted 18 July , 2008 Share Posted 18 July , 2008 Chris, it may be worth a try contacting the Louth County Library local history section they may be able to provide you with a list of the burial sites in the area of Drogheda and they may also have collections of headstone inscriptions. referencelibrary@louthcoco.ie or the Louth County Heritage Officer may have such information. Neil Clark Posted 18 July , 2008 Share Posted 18 July , 2008 Chris, An interesting and extremely worthwhile project indeed. Seems unbelievable that no one (in govt service) has ever taken the time to look at this subject. If you can do it and get good results with your "interfering civilian" status limitations then others could have done more to find out where these men were buried before merely placing their names on a memorial to the missing. It is always preferable to commemorate a man where he lays rather than place his name on an obscure memorial somewhere. Still, I guess it's better than nothing... Onwards & Upwards Chris, Onward & Upwards!
chrisharley9 Posted 21 July , 2008 Author Share Posted 21 July , 2008 Neil there are already a few on this memorial that I have confirmed as lost at sea - looks like I may have a result with one Canadian Major - hopefully confirmation will be with us today Chris
