bushfighter Posted 10 July , 2008 Share Posted 10 July , 2008 I'm in Nairobi and by luck have just come across BEA Command Order dated 14 September 1915. As seen above this spells out the naming and manning of the first artillery batteries to be created in British East Africa. Well done The Royal Fusiliers! SteveE Posted 10 July , 2008 Share Posted 10 July , 2008 Excellent find Harry! I'm assuming you've been delving in the Kenyan National Archives? Interesting that the 25th RF are listed as also manning No.3 Heavy Battery, that's detail that adds to the Official History which suggests it was only manned by the Navy. All you need to do now is find the names of those troops concerned . On a slightly more serious note I can identify 12 members of the 25th RF who had served with an Artillery unit prior to the war if it's ever of any use to you. I suppose it's possible that, with their experience, they were called to man the initial Batteries. Regards Steve
