Remembered Today:

7th Division Advance at Loos September 1915

From Andrew Rawson's excellent "Battleground Europe: Loos - Hohenzollern, French Flanders book, I have (attached) a page 85 Official History map "Summary of 7th Division's advance."

Unfortunately, it is rather small and with my attempts at enlarging it, much of it remains unreadable. Can anyone supply me with a better readable copy of it please?

The book also contains relevant parts of trench maps to accompany the narrative, these maps are also rather small.

Can anyone supply me with a larger copy of a trench map covering the area Vermelles - Hulluch - Citie St. Elie - Hohenzollern Redoubt - Vermelles for the start of battle (25 September 1915) and the end of the battle (October 1915).

Also, is there an OS map of this area for this period.

Regards

Richard.

Richard,

You're most welcome.

If you want any more maps (I have the Trench Map cd and have spent several hours this week checking through the Lens/Loos/La Bassee area), please let me know.

Regards,

Tim

Many thanks for the offer.

If convenient, a detailed map of the area covering the Quarries (at Citie St. Elie) up to and including the Hohenzollern redoubt (to the north-west), would be greatly appreciated.

The trench map CD is one of many items on my shopping list for the future.

Does the CD contain maps of the same areas for different periods/years reflecting ground lost or taken?

regards

Richard

Richard,

I cannot recommend this CD highly enough.

One day I shall also buy the Soldiers died CD

I have three maps available covering the same area at the following dates:

11th December 1915

11th June 1916

31st October 1917

Unusually, all three name all the British trenches, but only the 1917 map names all the German ones.

Which would you like?

Regards,

Tim

Many thanks indeed, the situation 11 December 1915 would be fine.

And here is the second one, both are as at December 1915, this map has more detail of the quarry area.
