NOT FORGOTTEN

2/Lt PAUL was put forward by GWF on 21.05.08 on behalf of member, Wesley Wright.

The other names are all discoveries by the In From The Cold Project and are some of those found amongst the SDGW Home deaths. The IFCP volunteers who made the original discoveries and the details of each are as follows:

- Pte BASNETT drowned swimming in the sea off Berwick-upon-Tweed during a rest period on a march. Another soldier drowned with him but he was already commemorated by CWGC. (Volunteer: Peter Woodger)

- Sjt BURGESS died of infective endocarditis in Brighton (Volunteer: Kevin O’Neill)

- Pte CAMPBELL committed suicide by cutting his throat in the guard room at Ayr Barracks (Volunteer: John Hartley)

- Dvr CASEY died of heart failure in Warminster (Volunteer: John Hartley)

- L/Cpl CLARKE died of nephritis in Southport (Volunteer: John Hartley)

- Pte FUTVOYE died of pneumonia in Curragh, Ireland (Volunteer: Peter Woodger)

- Cpl GREENWOOD died of a lung haemorrhage in Somerleyton, Suffolk (Volunteer: John Hartley)

As a matter of interest, IFCP has so far about another 150 possible cases in the pipeline.

Thanks to everbody who made this possible--the family are delighted he is now remembered.

They are planning A VISIT next year, but I have urged them to wait and see when name will be added on Pozieres Memorial

Civil occupation labourer - enlisted Newcastle Upon Tyne 20 May 1916. His father was John Basnett of the same address. He served at home until his death.

If he was in the Non Combatant Corps then Henry Basnett was probably a Conscientious (sp?) Objector.

What was the name of the chap who drowned with him?

I've just read a book on the subject if anyone is interested - We Will Not Fight by Will Ellsworth-Jones - very interesting indeed.

whats his story please----------I know he was single, I found him in Presbyterian Church in Ireland records for World War 1----HE WAS LISTED THERE as a member of A.S.C. He belonged to Maghera Presbyterian church in the townland of Creive--Co. L/derry.

Death certificate states he was 21 and 2nd Lieut- 16th Royal Irish Rifles--KIA March 1918.

I have found the family and they know who where his parents etc.
