Northern Soul Posted 18 June , 2008 Share Posted 18 June , 2008 Raising a glass to the memory of Gerald & another to the efforts of Andy (Northern Soul). Andy any story attached to this one?. Also where is Parkside Cemetery as I can't place it in my mind. It's towards the south of Kendal, in the general direction of Oxenholme. Kendal, having a beastly one-way system is the sort of place that if you miss your turn then you have to go all the way round again. If I'm honest, I looked for it on Google Earth to get my bearings before I went there. Gerard Huck was one of the original pre-war 4th King's Own, probably enlisting in mid-January, 1913, judging by his Service Number. He went to France with them in May, 1915 and then served with the battalion until he got badly wounded at (I think) Guillemont in 1916. He was repatriated and then got TB and was discharged. He died in the sanatorium at Meathop and was buried without a headstone - CWGC are going to erect one (Terry identified his grave plot). I'm going to have to get busy again - only got one more non-com in the pipeline at the moment !!! Andy. Perhaps it worth pointing out to the CWGC that the "T4" in his Service Number is an artifact from the Medal Index Card I supplied - his number was just 1779. Andy.
