Soren Posted 1 June , 2005 Share Posted 1 June , 2005 Hi Pal's, Recently it's become apparent that there's alot of artistic talent out there amongst Forum Pal’s. each month there will be a Great War related topic/theme for the Arty types amongst Forum Pal's to muse over and then post their illustration/artwork/creative writing, etc, on the thread. This months (June) MGWAT title is: 'The Battle of Mount Sorrel', taken from the excellent break down of events which I found on Chris's 'The Long Long Trail': http://www.1914-1918.net/bat14_5.htm There are various interesting points in the battle, so I'll leave it for you to decide what you'd like to depict! Good luck Soren P.S There will be a Poll at the end of the month on which piece is the Pal's favourite, in the meantime you can post away, submissions will be collated at the end of the month and then the POLL will commmence (
Soren Posted 3 June , 2005 Author Share Posted 3 June , 2005 Hi Pals, This is it, my entry for this months topic, allthough I'm sure that I'll regret posting it in the morning! The Canadians defending ferociously Hill 62.... Sort of contained within my sketchbook at present..... hence the big old line down it... apologies for the poor drawing of the revolver, I've not really studied them from that angle! I did another drawing on the subject, an aerial view of Canadian and German dead, called: Victory?
Landsturm Posted 13 June , 2005 Share Posted 13 June , 2005 I just finished mine (you`re so impatient Soren!), I`ll put it up as soon as I can. I also have some other news; I`ll be entering military service on July 11th, so my participation on MGWAT will depend on how much time and energy I have, but I promise to try my best And I`ll be watching our fine artists for sure... DirtyDick Posted 17 June , 2005 Share Posted 17 June , 2005 Yah yah das ist gooooood yah ick kommen , a Das Boot type affair I presume DD? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No, landlubberish to the extreme... I copied a page out of a Catherine Cookson novel - you know, to get a real historical insight into the period. Anyhow, snooty Lord's son loses legs on The Somme (to lose one leg is careless...), scullery maid loses her husband/brother/father, nurses said aristo back to health and the class divide is forgotten.... NOT!
shaymen Posted 26 June , 2005 Share Posted 26 June , 2005 Well here goes - Don't Laugh Its my first ever attempt at a drawing. I have cheated a bit and called it AFTER THE BATTLE OF MOUNT SORRELL Glyn
Ozzie Posted 26 June , 2005 Share Posted 26 June , 2005 Glyn, I'd call that very good as a first attempt. Try some more and make sure you post them. Cheers Kim
Landsturm Posted 26 June , 2005 Share Posted 26 June , 2005 June 2nd 1916, a Lewis-gunner from 4th Canadian Mounted Rifles trying to hold his devastated part of the line during the opening stages of battle of Mount Sorrel. This one is made with wax-oil crayons and pencils... and now complately in greyscale due to technological problems (scanner turned the image into a mixture of pink, blue and green mess, which didn`t look either pretty, realistic or clever). Landsturm Posted 26 June , 2005 Share Posted 26 June , 2005 Glyn, your pic surely has a eerie atmosphere in it. That`s very good for a first try. Keep it up
