geraint Posted 13 January , 2011 Share Posted 13 January , 2011 Truly excellent collection. There's something very poignant in the hopes and aspirations embodied in all these cards. Did you ever come across any Welsh language ones at all?
high wood Posted 18 January , 2011 Author Share Posted 18 January , 2011 Geraint, nothing in the Welsh language so far but I am sure that there must be some out there somewhere, perhaps at the privately printed level. bantamforgot Posted 4 February , 2011 Share Posted 4 February , 2011 Just as a matter of interest ref. your query regarding the animals in post 52, could these be the divisions in which the Fusiliers served, I certainly noted some? Colin.
stevem49 Posted 4 February , 2011 Share Posted 4 February , 2011 Post 82 - Pte Albert Edward Hill. Possibly written prior to them moving into the line at St Pierre Divion on 17th December. If he wrote it whilst in the line, HQ located at Q.24.c.4.1. The 9th Bn were relieved by the 7th South Staffs on 25th December 1916. Do you mind if I take a copy? Andrew Upton Posted 4 February , 2011 Share Posted 4 February , 2011 11th Btn, Machine Gun Corps, Christmas 1918. Interesting card - the front depicts one of the old wooden No.3 ammunition boxes (replaced in 1916 by the metal type) probably still in use as late as 1918, and the back shows a bayonet attached to pistol webbing. Andrew Upton Posted 5 February , 2011 Share Posted 5 February , 2011 Big card this one. The "In Action" image is featured in Goldsmith's "Grand Old Lady" to illustrate the urgencies of ammuntion supply. If you look closely, the very end of the last ammunition belt is going through the feedblock, hence the imploring gesture from the No.2 of the right.
