dfaulder Posted 12 March , 2009 Share Posted 12 March , 2009 I suspect there is no short cut to this, but in case someone knows of one I'll ask: If I know who occupied an area of land at a particular time, but I want to track who then held/lost/gained that land, is there any easy & quick way to do it other than the easy but very slow method of spending a considerable amount of time at TNA and going through War Diaries (I guess Brigade level will probably be best) looking up all the movement orders? I am specifically interested in the patch of land (it's only a few fields) between the Klien Vierstraat/Kemmel No 1 Cemeteries and the Suffolk Cemetery. I know that 1/4th Y&L fought over it on 26 April 1918, and got driven back (being then held for a while by "Gefreiter 5e kompanie RIR 238"- per Roel22's sig). There is then a gap. I then know (from CWGC) that in October 1918 the 38th Labour Group was in the area (in now being presumably well behind the front line). Any suggestions welcome. Cross references to previous work concerning this area.
