Guest Posted 28 February , 2020 Share Posted 28 February , 2020 Hi there, I wonder if anybody on the forum could provide any information about the attached medal? It is amongst the belongings of my wife's Great Grandfather George Wilson who served in the Army Service Corp. He was awarded the usual Pip, Squeak and Wilfred medals along with a Distinguished Conduct Medal. Any help in identifying the medal would be gratefully appreciated. Ian Riley Posted 28 February , 2020 Share Posted 28 February , 2020 Welcome to the Great War Forum. At first glance it looks like a souvenir from the city of Perpignan, on the French Mediterranean coast quite near to the border with Spain. The inscription is Ville de Perpignan and the heraldic design is a version of the coat of arms of the area. It is a long way from the operational area of the BEF. Perhaps it was a gift from a French soldier (or lady?) from the area. Ian
Guest Posted 28 February , 2020 Share Posted 28 February , 2020 Thanks for that Ian. I did think it said Perpignan at the end but when I googled it I saw that it was very much in the South of France. You are probably right that it is some kind of souvenir rather than a medal. Thanks again.
