Droocoo Posted 16 May , 2018 Share Posted 16 May , 2018 Hi all, I have posted here and elsewhere before, regarding combinations of MC’s and MM’s. This was as part of my research regarding Lt Sydney Ernest Warburton MC MM 1/4th Yorks and Lancs. Here I have an issue of Medal News from February 1983 with the recipients of such combinations for your perusal. Warburton’s group is pictured below. I have included his original commission document as I think it is stunning. As an MC collector, this is definitely one of the highlights of my collection! Kindest Regards, Andrew
Droocoo Posted 16 May , 2018 Author Share Posted 16 May , 2018 What I particularly like about these combinations is that the recipients ascended through the ranks through the merit of their gallantry as opposed to being commissioned from wealth. As you can see, Warburton’s 1914-1915 star records his rank as private. Kindest Regards, Andrew
Ken Lees Posted 19 May , 2018 Share Posted 19 May , 2018 That list is not complete. I guided a Canadian tour last week for a man whose father received the MM in 1916 and the MC in 1917 and he doesn't appear to be listed.
Droocoo Posted 21 May , 2018 Author Share Posted 21 May , 2018 Interesting, the list was compiled a while ago so I am sure that there would be more names to add. Is there a definitive register?

David_Underdown Posted 8 April , 2020 Share Posted 8 April , 2020 I mentioned Lt John William Russell MC DCM MM RE in an earlier take on this subject and I've also written him up in more detail here (though I managed to get the Gazette date of his MM wrong somehow) http://blogs.mhs.ox.ac.uk/innovatingincombat/guest-post-david-underdown-lt-j-w-russell-mc-dcm-mm-re-dorking/
ilkley remembers Posted 8 April , 2020 Share Posted 8 April , 2020 George Burdon McKean VC MM MC wrote a book about his exploits called Scouting Skills: The Memoir of a Scout Officer in the Great War which was published in 1919. Mentioned it on the 'What books are you reading' on the Books forum last week
