putty Posted 25 January , 2014 Share Posted 25 January , 2014 Was wondering if anybody can help with the identification markings on this 18 pounder shell casing. It comes from Victoria Australia and is believed to have been brought back from the great war and passed down the family. Im fine with the basics (18 pr II, CF and the date) but was wondering if anybody had an idea of the manufacturer
Mike_H Posted 26 January , 2014 Share Posted 26 January , 2014 The manufacturer M.A.C. was Macfarlane Electrical Co. of London M
putty Posted 26 January , 2014 Author Share Posted 26 January , 2014 Mike, thanks very much for that. Any idea of the "x" mark (at 2 o'clock on photo)? and the "EOB" ( at 9 o'clock on photo) P
18th Battalion Posted 27 January , 2014 Share Posted 27 January , 2014 There's some info in this thread that might be helpful interpreting the various marks: http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=194225
Mike_H Posted 27 January , 2014 Share Posted 27 January , 2014 Sorry, no ideas on the X. EOB was the filling contractor alongside the date the case was filled but I don't have an i/d for the company. M

nigelfe Posted 30 January , 2014 Share Posted 30 January , 2014 Not forgetting that 18-pr remained in service with the Militia until WW2.
