Adam Llewellyn Posted 2 August , 2010 Share Posted 2 August , 2010 Good day all, 61952 Cpl. Bertie Squires 166th Siege Battery RGA is listed on Anstey AVL. His MIC shows a pair only and no other information, could anybody help with a possible enlistment date and anything else of interest? Best regards. Llew. kildaremark Posted 2 August , 2010 Share Posted 2 August , 2010 61008 Bryant attested at No 4 Depot Great Yarmouth on 2 November 1915 so without further records around this number, I would guess that he attested in the same week in the same location. He would have enlisted a few days before he was issued with his number at the RGA depot probably at his local recruiting office. No doubt one of the RGA experts with more information may come along to confirm the above or suggest a more precise date. Mark
Adam Llewellyn Posted 2 August , 2010 Author Share Posted 2 August , 2010 Thats great thanks Mark, would you by chance have a possible date of entry for 61008, just to give me some idea on when he may have gone overseas? Regards. Llew.
kildaremark Posted 2 August , 2010 Share Posted 2 August , 2010 Llew, The system doesn't work like that. The RGA recruit from 1915 would go to a coastal company for training or 'a' or 'b' siege depot. From there they may have undegone specialist training such as an observer, signaller or siege gun layer. They were then assigned to a particular siege battery, before or after the specialist training. Many recruits from this period would have gone out with batteries in May/June 1916 for the beginning of the Somme. I dont have a date for 166th Siege Battery, but would guess that they went out in about September 1916. Mark
