Terry Denham Posted 31 October , 2007 Share Posted 31 October , 2007 The considerable success of the GWF procedures for having non-comemmorated casualties accepted by MoD/CWGC has been noted here before. This has prompted some members to ask if they can use the system for submitting similar cases for WW2 'forgotten' casualties. With Chris' permission, the answer is - 'Yes'. Four such cases are already in the pipeline and any successes will be noted here just as they are for WW1 casualties. There are nowhere near as many WW2 cases to be found but they do occasionally crop up. Also, we now have extended the GWF system to enable cases to be submitted to the MoD for any missing names on the new post-WW2 Armed Forces Memorial and Rolls of Honour (not a CWGC responsibility) and the first case has just been accepted as below. Gnr William GORDON 23709949 Royal Artillery Died 01.04.62 Age 20 (Drowned during training) Buried: Rheindahlen Military Cemetery, Germany NOT FORGOTTEN Even though these men will be 'off-topic' for this Forum, at least they will get some recognition. Don't worry, there will be very few of them and they will not distract attention from WW1.

Drummy Posted 5 November , 2007 Share Posted 5 November , 2007 Hopefully one day those who fell between 1921 to 1939 will be remembered officially. Seems sad that this is the only remaining gap from 1914 to 2007. Drummy.

Neil Clark Posted 6 November , 2007 Share Posted 6 November , 2007 I came across this man - ARTHUR MARSH who was buried in an Ashford Cemetery in the 1940's. On his headstone was this sad statement - Died 23rd December 1948. He was wounded badly in France 1917 with Royal West Kent Regt. HE SUFFERED LONG AND CONTINUOUS! How many other men died of their wounds like this? Hundreds of Thousands probably... Has anyone got anything on poor Arthur?
