24 Hour Clock

Sorry if this one has been asked before.

At 2nd Ypres neither the Germans nor the Canadians (British) used the 24 hour clock. Did any army use it during the 1st WW? If not, when did it come into use?

Cheers,

Nathan

Although it was used before, the BEF officially changed over from the 12-hour to the 24-hour clock on 1 October, 1918.

The French Army adopted the 24 hour clock just before the outbreak of the war, in 1912 or 1913.

To prove the point -

War Diary 1st October 1918 - On the night of 30/9-1/10 Continental time will be used throughout the British Army. ( So they used continental time and not the 24 hour clock!! )

Zero hour on 1st October was indeed 0500.
