Blackblue Posted 23 February , 2006 Share Posted 23 February , 2006 Try Weston here. He was a Corporal with the 25th Battalion, Australian Imperial Force (25 AIF). He was formerly a local to Leeds and obviously emigrated to Australia prior to the war. http://www.awm.gov.au/database/roh.asp http://www.awm.gov.au/cms_images/awm131/052/052200.pdf http://www.awm.gov.au/database/awm8/name.asp http://www.awm.gov.au/cms_images/awm8/23_42_1/pdf/0016.pdf http://www.awm.gov.au/database/133/page.as...&surname=weston You can have his papers digitized here: http://naa12.naa.gov.au/scripts/ItemDetail.asp?M=0&B=8381916 According to the Bn history the unit appears to have been out of the line when he died. Prior to this the Bn were undergoing their very first spell in the line in France/Flanders at Armentieres (also known as 'The Nursery'). There is reference to some shelling soon after they arrived and to men being shot by snipers. Rgds Tim

Dolphin Posted 24 February , 2006 Share Posted 24 February , 2006 Ady The 7th North Staffords were part of Dunsterforce, a formation sent to head off Turkish advances in the Caspian. It's been mentioned a few times on the Forum, so a search should dig out something. You could try seeking out a copy of these books: The Adventures of Dunsterforce by Maj Gen L C Dunsterville, printed in the 1930s The Day We Almost Bombed Moscow by Christopher Dobson & John Miller, ISBN 0 340 33723 0; and Stamping out the Virus by Perry Moore, ISBN 0 7643 1625 7. I hope that this helps. Gareth
