alan jones Posted 27 September , 2013 Share Posted 27 September , 2013 Hello , I was wondering if any of you experts could possibly tell me what date a Frederick Charles Leach , Private 6th Batt Wiltshire Regiment 36898 enlisted please . He died as a POW in 1918 . Look forward to hearing from you . Regards Alan
sotonmate Posted 27 September , 2013 Share Posted 27 September , 2013 Alan There may be easier ways of finding a date but I just sampled a heap of SWB Lists for the Regt. Not a very good example of number and date sequencing, viz: 36624 on 5.9.00 36951 on 26.8.16 36125 on 15.6.17 37317 on 5.5.17 33799 on 2.1.07 My feeling is that you are looking at late 1916/early 1917. It might be easier trying to sample the service records.
asanewt Posted 28 September , 2013 Share Posted 28 September , 2013 If you can find a MIC that should have enlistment and discharge dates. Would look but can't get to library 'till Monday.
alan jones Posted 28 September , 2013 Author Share Posted 28 September , 2013 Thank you both , I cant trace his service records and his MIC gives nothing about enlistment etc Regards Alan
stevem49 Posted 28 September , 2013 Share Posted 28 September , 2013 If you can find a MIC that should have enlistment and discharge dates. Would look but can't get to library 'till Monday. His medal index card would not 'usually' give enlistment and discharge. If he did join in 1916/17, then it would not even give his deployment to theatre date. Alan It might be worthwhile changing the heading to mention Wilt's Regt - an expert may be on the forum. sotonmate Posted 28 September , 2013 Share Posted 28 September , 2013 Alan The Wilts (and Berks) Regt. website The Wardrobe may have something to help you. My suggestion about service records was more about others with nearby numbers rather than looking for his, which I assumed you had tried.
