In memory of the fallen 1st Battalion RWF men on the eve of the 98th Anniversary of the battle of Festubert.

The dead included my paternal great uncle Private Joseph Davies 11069, and also my maternal great uncle Private Richard Owen 6026. Both have no known graves and are commemorated along with many of their comrades at Le Touret. May they rest in peace.

May I also add a remembrance of those men of the 7th KLR who fell at Festubert.

A number of them came from Bootle, Crosby, Formby and Southport, and it led to Southport "adopting" Festubert in 1920. Cultural visits by school children were organised between 1922 and 1939, and sufficient money was raised in Southport to build a salon des fetes in the village. The modern replacement still has the original plaque in the foyer, naming the building The Southport Memorial Hall.
