Dragon Posted 11 April , 2013 Share Posted 11 April , 2013 I've come across this Facebook page by a poilu of 1914. I think it's very well done. Léon Vivien Thanks to the Facebook friend who drew attention to it. Gwyn
redbarchetta Posted 11 April , 2013 Share Posted 11 April , 2013 Wow - what a brilliant idea!! And very well done, too! I'm stunned. I wonder whether this was something Facebook France has done - to set up all the 'friends' for comments etc and to set the dates correctly, would have been difficult without their involvement... Thanks for the link, Gwyn James
Dragon Posted 11 April , 2013 Author Share Posted 11 April , 2013 Yes, it's good, isn't it. He's just added another entry. It resonates with the memoirs I've read by French soldiers. Gwyn

I agree very well done and I think if you follow it the need for translation should become less and less - well here's hoping! Ken
Dragon Posted 11 April , 2013 Author Share Posted 11 April , 2013 If you liked this glimpse into a poilu's life, I can recommend trying Gabriel Chevallier's memoir 'Fear' in translation. Or 'Letters from a Chasseur à Pied' by Robert Pellissier, written in English. Gwyn

Martin Bennitt Posted 12 April , 2013 Share Posted 12 April , 2013 Huh, have to sign up to Facebook for that which I object to on principle cheers Martin B

Martin Bennitt Posted 12 April , 2013 Share Posted 12 April , 2013 Could it even be iniquitous, Martin? that too, Gwyn. At the risk of seeming hypocritical, I can always ask my wife (who signed up to FB so we can keep tabs on our daughters) to check it out cheers Martin B
