Simon,

This may be Henry Lunt, Lance Corporal, Cheshire Regt. (#2255, 15060, 243470); he may have an Acting Sergeant without a promotion from

his rank as Lance Corporal. He has a MIC (WO 372/12/67277 at the National Archives). There are two service records for "Henry Lunt" on ancestry.com, but I cannot access them to determine if they are relevant. There are three possible Henry Lunts in the BMD and census records:

(1) Henry Lunt, born 1885 (2 Q) Northwich, Cheshire; living in Cheshire as per 1911 Census.

(2) Henry Lunt, born 1892, Manchester, Lancs; living in Cheshire as per 1911 Census

(3) Henry Thomas Lunt, born 1900, Nantwell, Cheshire; living in Cheshire as per 1901 & 1911 Census

Also, there is a MIC for Harry Lunt, Private, with the Cheshire Regt. (# 29742) & the Labour Corps (# 193833), NA WO 372/12/167274,

but I suspect the L/Cpl. is the more likely of the two MICs. It would be helpful if a service record can be located, or if any of the

Cheshire Regiment specialists on the Forum can contribute any details (try posting a request under the "organizations" category

as well as "soldiers").

Regards,

Trelawney

The 2/4th had been disbanded by the end of 1915, with its recruits being absorbed into the 2/7th. Like the other second line Cheshires, the 2/7th did not serve overseas so, assuming Lunt's service was only with them, then there isnt going to be a medal card.

  • 3 weeks later...

H Lunt 2255 L/Cpl is shown in the paper dated 17/9/1915 as wounded in Gallipoli.

As a matter of interest

2258 enlisted 7/9/1914

2241 enlisted 5/9/1914
