Chris_Baker Posted 28 February , 2012 Share Posted 28 February , 2012 I am a little perplexed by this photo and hoping that someone can advise. The signature clearly shows Egypt 1916 and is of a man named Alexander Pirie. But does that line up with him wearing collar dogs? Is there much else that can be told from his uniform or badges? All suggestions gratefully received.

Chris_Baker Posted 28 February , 2012 Author Share Posted 28 February , 2012 Thanks Graham. I've now found http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=161598, which seems to show the same insignia. So did they wear collar dogs throughout? It is the dating of the photo rather than of his presence in Egypt that interests me.

Chris_Baker Posted 28 February , 2012 Author Share Posted 28 February , 2012 Thanks again, John. Well I have learned something today. Now committing to memory: "the Scottish Horse wore collar dogs during the Great War".

Leigh Mc Posted 28 February , 2012 Share Posted 28 February , 2012 It looks to me like the Scottish Horse were prolific modifiers of the pocket flaps on their SD jackets.
FROGSMILE Posted 28 February , 2012 Share Posted 28 February , 2012 It looks to me like the Scottish Horse were prolific modifiers of the pocket flaps on their SD jackets. They appear to have their own unique pattern rather than a modified 1902 type.
