Old photos of Herefordshire's Drill Halls

Towrds the end of last year, the Assistant Curator of The Herefordshire Regimental Museum generously offered us a super collection of photographs of drill halls in Herefordshire from around 1910. I thought you might like to see them.

All pictures are credited to Herefordshire Light Infantry Museum Trust.

You'll need to scroll through any modern photos and other donations of archive pictures (Hereford). All the recent additions are enlarged on click-thru. There are some lovely details, such as a man leading a horse and cart into the photo of Ross, a man gardening at Kington with his jacket hanging on a fence, a woman with a pram outside Friar Street, a garden with a washing line at Harold Street, the advertisements outside Leominster and various cars. They depict the drill hall as a living part of its community with people making a home in the residential quarters.

Hereford - Friar Street (demolished, site now a bus garage) and Harold Street (extant)

Kington - extant, now a private house

Ledbury - demolished around 1995

Leominster - demolished

Ross-on-Wye - I believe demolished
