Hi all

I hope someone can clear up a question ( I fear it will be silly question) I have regarding A. G. Haig' sevice. I have a bit of information regarding his service from a few sources but they contradict each other.

I was under the impression that Alan was in the Royal artillery. I have a copy of his medal roll card. He was O.C. 122 Heavy Battery R.A. during the war but records from the London gazette state he was in the Royal Garrison Artillery.

He also served in the Boer War as well but don't have much info about his time over there.

Can anybody help me in clearing this up. It almost seems he jumped from the RGA to the RA and back again.

Thanks in advance

Cam

Cam: Both of your answers are correct. The name of the regiment is the Royal Regiment of Artillery generally abbreviated "R.A." During the Great War (and up to 1924) the R.A. was divided into three corps: Royal Horse Artillery (R.H.A.), Royal Field Artillery (R.F.A.) and Royal Garrison Artillery (R.G.A.). 122nd Heavy Battery during the Great War was designated 122nd Heavy Battery, R.G.A. and the officers were R.G.A. officers. Hi Dick

Thanks for replying , It was actually annoying me and I am so glad i have an answer.

I was wondering if you have anything else on the Alan in your bag of tricks. I would love to find out some more information. I have extracts from Ancestry, London gazette and the entry in the DSO book (though the enrty is almost worthless no detail whatsoever)

Thanks

Cam

Hello sir,

I'm a n Indian army officer looking for details of Lt Col AG Haig. We are the oldest Artillery regiment of Indian Artillery then Royal Artillery. Our unit has completed 100 years of its raising and we are in search of our ancestors and their next of kin in order to recognise and felicitate so that they can add some great feathers to this great institution with their memoirs. Lt Col Haig   was our first Commanding officer when the unit was formed. Any whereabouts please let me know.

Hi Abni

I've just seen your enquiry about Lt Col Alan Gordon Haig and am glad to be able to help you because he was in fact my grandfather! My father, Major Richard Bromwich Haig, was Alan's second son.

My grandfather's recollections include a short chapter about his appointment in 1921 to the command of the Mountain Artillery Brigade at Peshawar, and I would be more than happy to send you further details. Although I have many photos of him I haven't yet located one dating from that period.

Regards

Robin

Hello Mr Haig..

It gives me immense pleasure to know that you are Col Haig's grandson. We are searching for our roots as we are in our centenary year.

It'll be my honour to connect with you. Request if you can share any picture or some details of your grandfather with me.
