ForeignGong Posted 5 March , 2011 Share Posted 5 March , 2011 Hi Are these given in addition to a regular award ie MM DCM or given when someone is recommended for a DCM or MM & does not get one????? Peter
Mike_H Posted 6 March , 2011 Share Posted 6 March , 2011 Peter The badge and a Card of honour were awarded to the recipients of gallantry awards or a mention in destpatches. It was worn sewn on the Divisional sign on the right arm only. Mike
ForeignGong Posted 6 March , 2011 Share Posted 6 March , 2011 Was it just the 29th that did this??? & was it awarded to the person prior to them receiving their gallantry award or was it a case of a double recognition??? as an Aussie I have never heard of them. mark holden Posted 6 March , 2011 Author Share Posted 6 March , 2011 Peter, I believe the 31st Division had a similar badge of white and red rose surrounded by a wreath of Laurels. 16th Irish had Gallantry Certificates awarded by General Hickie the Commander. Most divisions had Gallantry cards in recognition of brave conduct-some but not all were a precurser to the award of a medal. regards Mark

mark holden Posted 15 June , 2013 Author Share Posted 15 June , 2013 I thought this postcard of a group of 4th Worcesters NCOs might be of interest. The L/Cpl front row far left as you look at the photo is wearing the 29th Division Badge for Gallantry. He appears to be wearing the ribbon of the MM.
