egbert Posted 31 March , 2010 Share Posted 31 March , 2010 Peter (mebu), I hav attached an extract of an early war German map with Adinfer wood depicted. Is the bunker in question located underneath the worn spot (from frequent fingerpointing)on the very right edge of the wood?
mebu Posted 31 March , 2010 Author Share Posted 31 March , 2010 Hello Egbert, no, I have marked the position with a red circle, Regards Peter
egbert Posted 13 April , 2010 Share Posted 13 April , 2010 I am still not ready to accept the word "Holland" for the first hyroglyph. Another German word for this sort of optical signal station was "Heligraph or Heliograf". I could very well imagine the insciption starting with Helio.... but the rest does not fit at all. It is very difficult for me to think out of the box here as Adrian did so brilliantly with "Lichtspielhaus".
egbert Posted 14 April , 2010 Share Posted 14 April , 2010 I think I got something here: it is possibly not Hollands Lichtspielhaus which always sounded surreal and strange, but Hollunder Lichtspielhaus The German word Holunder is the name of a bush plant; Engl: elder. In the time of the GWF the word Holunder was written with double L = Hollunder So the translation into English language is: Elder Cinema which is quite a humorous jargon for a signal station amongst elder bushes
