Chris.

I am not far from Mitcham but the only time I can get there is at weekends and my time then is very limited.

However, I have made a note of your request and will get there if/when I can. I will also keep an eye on this thread to see if anyone else offers and can do it before me.

Best wishes.

What regiment was he? I can't find him on SDGW or Ancestry.

Chris

If it helps he is listed among the war dead of Croydon in the book Croydon and the Great War

Entry as follows

Flecker, H Pte R Fus

Educated High School Croydon D of pneumonia '15

If he's recognised in this book then it's very possible he is on the Croydon Memorial assuming of course that it has names on it. Personally I haven't seen it but maybe someone more local could check it out for you. Ditto if there is a memorial at was once the High School also assuming it's still there as well!

There are no names on the Croydon memorial itself but the names are in the book and, now, online.

The Croydon online memorial has an H Flecker listed under 1915 whereas the Times notice was from 1916 - how strange.

Chris.

Finally got around to going to the Cemetery and tracked down the grave. It is not in a good state.

The inscription says:-

In Loving Memory of

Hubert Hope Flecker

Royal Fusiliers

Who died 17 June 1915

Aged 22 Years and 10 months

Chris - PM me your email and I will send you the full size pictures.
