17tankman Posted 5 August , 2008 Author Share Posted 5 August , 2008 Peter Can the family apply to have the medals back if they were returned - presumably they were posted to him and he was no longer at that address???? 17Tankman
irishmen1916 Posted 5 August , 2008 Share Posted 5 August , 2008 Hi T/M, Going on similar threads, I dont think so, as with the passage of time, records get lost or destroyed, I am in no way a expert on this line, but I am sure that one of the other pal's will be along to guide you in the right direction, good luck with your search. Chris_Baker Posted 5 August , 2008 Share Posted 5 August , 2008 The "Adt" suggests they were returned for adjustment - usually to correct an incription error - after which they were sent out again. Is there any form of code on the card with the letters "IV" in it? That's the issue voucher when they were sent out - if often gives a date. 17tankman Posted 5 August , 2008 Author Share Posted 5 August , 2008 I think I have found the answer Retd is RETURNED (1743 KR) is Paragraph 1743 of the Kings Regulations 1912. THis states that unclaimed medals at the end of 10 years where sent back to the Royal Dockyard to be broken up. There is no description on the MIC which says they were claimed or sent again. Only thing I do not know, is it too late for the family to apply for them?? 17TM
